Hello, my name is David Aitken and I am a Licensed Psychologist trained in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic/existential, and family systems psychotherapy with over 25 years of clinical experience overall. I studied at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and completed my pre-doctoral internship at The Saturday Center For Psychotherapy and my post-doctoral fellowship at Wright Institute Los Angeles. Since graduating in 2015, I have worked in private practice and state hospital and state prison systems.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to provide a safe place for individuals to express their thoughts and feelings in a way that allows them to explore and become curious about parts of themselves that were once known but are now forgotten. Common theoretical approaches I use to this end stem from the psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic/existential, and family systems schools of thought.
My focus
Typically, I work with adult individuals with anxiety disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
My communication style
I enjoy helping people gain insight and perspective into the roles they once felt necessary to fulfill, roles that may have worked for them in the past but are no longer useful to them. Together, you and I can look at these different roles from an adult point of view and, from there, integrate them with your forgotten childhood dreams of the past, and, in doing so, help you to become - and feel - who you truly are.
