Hello! I'm Debbie Wright and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, serving clients via telehealth throughout the state of California. My approach to therapy is to meet the client where they are at and work with them to identify goals that will help them improve their quality of life.
My approach
My approach to therapy is tailored to meet the specific needs of the client. Most often, I use a combination of cognitive behavioral and solution-focused techniques to help clients address the many challenges and stressors they may be experiencing. Through the use of these techniques, I work with the client to establish trust, define goals and work toward goal attainment.
My focus
The populations I typically work with cover the lifespan (18+ years of age) and include college students (both undergraduate and graduate), those dealing with life transitions such as parenting, middle age, later life, illness/hospice, grief and loss, immigration/acculturation to a new environment and racial identity concerns. The most common conditions I am comfortable treating are anxiety, depression, and ADD. I work with clients on an individual basis as well as in a group setting.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, honest, caring, and direct. My goal is to help you feel comfortable in sharing without fear of feeling judged.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist began years before I attended college. From an early age, I found myself listening to others and offering suggestions. I have spent many years working with individuals in various capacities. Once I began my career, it was clear that the helping profession was the right fit as I enjoy working with people. I consider it a privilege to work with clients who choose to open up and share some of the most difficult and painful parts of their lives with me. I am often reminded of why I do this work each time I meet a client and I hear their story and learn how they have coped. I am in awe of how people cope in the midst of their storms.
My goals for you
We will work together to identify goals that you will work on during therapy. I do not tell you what you should or should not do. It is important for us to establish trust during the therapeutic process. In doing so, it will be easier for us to work together on your goals.
My first session with you
During your first session with me, you can expect me to ask you a lot of questions so that I can get a better understanding of what has brought you to seek help and what you hope to get out of therapy. This initial session is also important as we will both have a chance to get to know each other and you will be able to ask me questions related to the therapeutic process.
