Hi there, I'm Ursula!

My name is Ursula Buxton and I am a therapist licensed in California, License No. 49881. I help clients through various difficult situations in life, successfully coping with stress in daily life and any relationship issues that our life brings to us. Our life can be more rewarding and bring us a sense of accomplishment, and therapy helps us refocus on just that.

My approach

I use a cognitive behavioral approach and most of all EMDR, which is very effective and fast in comparison to other therapies. The connection of body and mind is the most important avenue to keep in mind when we want to improve our level of satisfaction from daily living. Also, taking a look at common sense and what the latest science discovers is helpful.

My focus

My clients come to therapy with PTSD, stress, anxiety, feeling stuck, lonely, misunderstood, and overlooked. We look at any of those issues and how they change our relationships. The goals are to feel improvement with every session and know that good changes are working and life is getting better.

My communication style

I always level with the client. I am never better or smarter than the one I am helping. We approach the issue together, examine what worked and what did not. We find better options to deal with anything presenting a difficulty. The change happens when my client wants it. We discover the tools to accomplish it with.

My journey to mental healthcare

I actually was a friend of a blind 4th grader that I would walk to her therapy and stay there. I saw good and bad moments of therapy and by being a friend of someone needing help, I decided that I would become a good therapist when I grew up. It happened many years later, and I am still happy to help my clients to get better, feel happier, and achieve their goals.

My goals for you

The goal is what my client wants to achieve. We might break it up into smaller steps, or work on something that is helpful, and the goal is achieved as a "side effect," as I often call it.

My first session with you

I will ask about the issue, just in a simple description of how it feels with the current difficulty, then we reconstruct the way of going about it. I ask what my client is hoping to achieve, and we start proceeding to the goal. The first session gives the person a clear idea of what could be accomplished if we worked together.
