Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about me. My name is Emily Cortez and I am an LMFT in CA. It is my hope to connect with you in a warm, supportive space to help process and tackle the many challenges that life throws at us. I have been practicing in the field going on 5 years now and have experience working with children, teens, families, and adults. I specialize in anxiety, depression, adjustment/life transitions, trauma, and grief/loss.
My approach
I generally use CBT and solution-focused approaches but also consider myself client-centered and want to make sure you feel heard and validated to process your thoughts and emotions in a comforting space.
My focus
The focus of sessions will be what you want to focus on. My initial goals are getting to know you and understanding what you are hoping to get out of therapy. My hope is to empower you and help break down goals to address issues that anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other life circumstances bring on.
My communication style
I meet all my clients where they are and acknowledge how daunting and vulnerable therapy can be. I ensure that my approach is warm, inviting, collaborative, and aimed to build a positive therapeutic relationship first in order to make progress towards the intended goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
Genuine human connection is what brought me to this career as a therapist. I enjoy connecting with others in a meaningful way and hope to support and empower my clients in any way that I can.
My goals for you
I like to hear what challenges/issues clients are facing and which disruptive symptoms/behaviors they have in response to such challenges and collaboratively create goals to improve the management of the symptoms/behaviors the client is experiencing.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a warm, friendly therapist who is eager to get to know them and initially understand what brings them to therapy at this time.
