Hi, my name is Joann Celeste. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in CA and NV. I have over 10 years of clinical experience guiding clients through a variety of issues. I consider myself a client-centered therapist who encourages self-exploration and growth. I believe in the process of empathically collaborating with my clients while supporting them through challenging times. My role is to ask the questions that motivate insight and inspire change.
My approach
I would describe my therapeutic approach as eclectic. The reason for that is because I maintain focus on my clients' needs. Some clients do better with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while others flourish with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. At the start of therapy, I like to explain the therapeutic approach I will use and the reason for its selection.
My focus
I feel comfortable working with a variety of clients. My experiences have included working with severely mentally ill clients in an outpatient setting, suicidal patients in psychiatric hospitals, antisocial inmates in a correctional facility, and clients going through episodic depression or anxiety. I have also helped clients through relationship or work-related issues, as well as those adjusting to particular changes in their lives.
My communication style
My goal is to create a peaceful, non-judgmental work environment. The tone used is one of acceptance and inclusiveness. My hope is that working with me makes you feel comfortable and validated. I listen attentively so that I can gain an understanding about what you are saying and what you need.
My journey to mental healthcare
I first realized the transformative power of the therapeutic process as an adult in my thirties. I saw my first therapist at that time and could not believe the healing power it could have on an individual. I was able to address core issues, deal with relationships, learn new coping skills, and define my life in ways I never thought possible. I am driven to help others get to a place in their lives where they can appreciate who they are and accomplish whatever it is they want to do.
My goals for you
I believe goal setting is a collaborative effort that takes time and patience. I want my clients to feel empowered by the choices they make while knowing I am available for input/advice. My clients are the experts in their own lives. My role is to facilitate the therapeutic process.
My first session with you
I consider the first session as the beginning of our journey. During our first session together, I will ask a series of questions so I can gain as much understanding of who you are, what you expect, what you want to accomplish, and how we are going to get there.
