Hi! My name is Maria Anguiano, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am based out of San Diego, California, and I specialize in working with Families and Individuals. I use an Attachment-based approach when working with clients, and focus on creating a safe and non-judgmental space. One of my passions is supporting clients to be able to see the beauty and strength within themselves.
My approach
I would describe my approach as eclectic; basing my specific tools on the needs of the clients and families that I work with. Some modalities that I use in therapy include Attachment- focused therapy, Play Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When working with a client, I focus on the strength that already exists within every individual.
My focus
I typically work with families with children of all ages and those who are adjusting to life transitions. In addition, I focus on individuals who may be experiencing things such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or finding it difficult to meet their goals.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, down-to-earth, and friendly. When working with me, clients will find that I provide both a safe space, as well as an environment that encourages growth and change. When working with family, I aim to connect with all family members and have each person's voice be heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
My own life experiences led me to want to support people to find strength within themselves. I knew from an early age that I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. My upbringing was challenging, and I wanted to be the support that I wish my family could have had. I find it an honor to do this work and am in constant awe of the resilience that lives in every client that I work with.
My goals for you
I believe that setting goals should be a team effort, where clients can feel comfortable talking about what they would like to achieve, and I can offer information and suggestions that will help to create achievable goals.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is us taking the majority of the time to learn about your life experiences, your joys, and what you are looking forward to getting out of therapy. It is also a time when you get to ask me questions that you may be curious about.
