As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 45 years of experience in the human services field, I specialize in providing individual therapy and marriage counseling. My educational background includes a Master's Degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Sonoma State University and a B.A. in Psychology from San Francisco State University.
My approach
My therapeutic approach draws from various theoretical underpinnings, including communication theory, family systems, hierarchy of needs, and gestalt theories. I employ a range of counseling techniques such as cognitive-behavioral, insight-experiential, problem-solving, solution-focused, behavioral contracts, communication skills, and mediation. Through a thorough assessment process, I develop a personalized treatment plan to address each client's unique needs.
My focus
I work with individuals and couples, specializing in short-term couples counseling (10-25 sessions) focused on improving communication skills, intimacy, trust, parenting skills, values clarification, resolving conflict, and building a shared marital vision. Additionally, I address family-of-origin issues such as relationship problems, generational concerns, rejection complex, identity/self-esteem, and physical or sexual abuse.
My communication style
My communication style is centered on creating a supportive and collaborative environment. I believe in active listening, empathy, and providing clear, practical guidance to help clients achieve their goals. Through open and honest dialogue, we work together to identify challenges, explore solutions, and foster personal growth and relationship enhancement.
My goals for you
My primary goal is to empower you with the tools, insights, and strategies needed to overcome challenges, build resilience, and lead a more fulfilling life. Whether you are seeking individual growth, stronger relationships, or improved mental well-being, I am committed to supporting you on your journey. Together, we will work to enhance your self-awareness, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and create positive, lasting changes.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will engage in a comprehensive assessment to gather information about your history, current concerns, and desired outcomes. This process allows me to gain a deep understanding of your unique situation and develop a personalized treatment plan aligned with your goals. We will establish a foundation of trust, discuss expectations, and begin the process of working toward meaningful change in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
