My communication style

Typically gentle, compassionate. I ask a lot of questions to help you explore what's happening in your life. At times, I will remind you of things you said before, make my own observations and insights, and I also use some worksheets and structured exercises.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have been providing counseling and support in mental health and substance abuse treatment spaces for 20 years, in the UK and in California. I've worked in various settings, including outpatient, residential treatment, schools, and psychiatric units. Providing therapy is wonderful for me; I get the opportunity to experience people growing.

My goals for you

I'm a firm believer in SMART goal setting, and as such, I'll be asking about progress every session - goals should be measurable. If you feel that you are not making progress, we'll make a different plan. If you are making progress, we'll look at ways to make that change more permanent in your life.

Our first session

The first session will be an intake. Alongside getting details of the current issues, I'll ask about your mental and physical health, relationships, past events, and your strengths. Together, we will make a treatment plan of how we will work on the problems that brought you into treatment.
