My name is Kristy Crownover and I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). I am a trauma-informed, emotionally focused therapist working with couples, families, and individuals. I specialize in improving relationships with others and most importantly, the relationship we have with ourselves.
My approach
I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy which helps people understand and change their negative cycles with the important people in their life. This allows my clients to have a new awareness of their relationships and move towards secure attachment. I utilize interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, and client-centered therapy to help my clients repair wounds from the past, step out of old patterns, recognize their defense moves (and those of others), and improve emotional intelligence.
My focus
I specialize in working with couples in distress, families preparing to welcome a baby, and postpartum difficulties. I enjoy working with families and individuals looking to reduce conflict, improve communication, and change limiting behaviors like anger management, anxiety, OCD, and addictions. I tend to work with clients that are tired of feeling disconnected from their partner or themselves. Many of my clients want to shut down their inner critic, understand why they behave in certain ways, explore new possibilities, and shift their perspective towards hope.
My communication style
The environment I strive to create for my clients is emotionally safe, empathetic, and free of judgment. I want to create a strong alliance with each of my clients and offer them unconditional positive regard. I hope that working with me feels empowering and productive.
My goals for you
My approach to setting goals is collaborative. During our initial sessions, I like to explore my client's goals and work together to create a plan. Throughout our work together, we will check in and reassess current short & long-term goals as needed.
My first session with you
During our first session, clients should expect to share the reasons why they are looking for psychotherapy, what they are looking for in a therapist, and what they want to improve or change. Our first session is a chance to find out if we are a good fit and explore the general issues that are coming up and possible ways to heal and move forward.
