Hello. My name is Geoff Smith and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My goal is to provide caring, empathetic counseling to help you learn and grow so you can overcome any challenges that you're experiencing.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is person-centered and strength-based. I typically use mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and client-centered approaches, but will look for opportunities to gently confront inconsistencies that may keep you from moving forward.
My focus
I work with adults; individuals, couples, and families. My practice is LGBTQ+ friendly and I often see people in polyamorous relationships. I have experience treating people with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, autism, and general relationship problems.
My communication style
My clients describe me as warm and supportive. I believe in the inherent dignity and worth of all people and that comes through in my work. I will be supportive yet challenge appropriately as indicated.
My journey to mental healthcare
Growing up, family and friends regularly confided in me as they appreciated my concern, support, and listening ear. As it came time to consider a career, I knew that it was important to me to do something that makes a positive difference in people's lives. Therapy has been an excellent way to help people in a way that comes naturally to me. I look forward to working with you.
My goals for you
I’m here to support my clients in reaching whatever goals they have for themselves. My intention is to help clarify the person’s goals so that they’re clear to both of us and then work together to achieve the goals the client has set.
My first session with you
The first session is the chance for us to get to know each other a bit and to set goals for therapy. I will have a lot of questions for you which will help set the tone for our working together on whatever issues you're needing help with at this time.
