Hello, I'm Samyra (Sah-my-rah)! My goal is to help clients determine what's missing in their lives and to assist them in filling the void.
My approach
My approach to therapy is integrative. I use cognitive behavioral and solution-focused techniques to help clients accomplish therapeutic goals.
My focus
My specialty: anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and adult survivors of child abuse.
My communication style
My communication style is both caring and direct. I ask lots of questions to help myself and the client understand why the client thinks and feels the way they do. I'm determined to get to the root of the problem, and that's only done by asking tough questions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because during my childhood, my grandmother suffered from mental illness and spent time in the psychiatric ward. Family members said my grandmother was "crazy," but I wanted to learn more about her condition. How could the woman I loved be "crazy?" I'm driven to do this work to make therapy less taboo.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative as seen by assisting clients to create their own goals.
My first session with you
The first session is considered the initial assessment. I ask questions about what brings one into therapy, hopes for therapy, and background information such as some family history, and past therapeutic services, etc.
