My educational background consists of earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master's in clinical counseling, and a Master's in Addictions. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC #16395) and am a certified addictions counselor. My areas of concentration include grief and significant trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and a sub-concentration in eating disorders
My approach
I use evidence-based, solution-focused modalities of treatment. Because each person is different and responds differently to treatment, these include, but are not limited to Cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help one become aware of negative or inaccurate thinking and work toward reframing thoughts to better deal with challenging situations. Dialectical behavioral therapy to deal with intense emotions, and learn to understand and accept feelings. Motivational interviewing for addictions where the client is encouraged to maintain sobriety by identifying their intrinsic motivations and values. By utilizing Trauma-informed care, I can help evaluate each individual's trauma and its impact on their behavior, mental and physical health, and their ability to participate and engage in treatment.
My focus
I work with adult and older teen clients. I work with acute trauma including survivors of rape, suicide, murder, or natural disaster events, chronic trauma including domestic violence, abuse, and complex trauma, with additional specialties in addictions and eating disorders. I offer group therapy for adult survivors of childhood trauma.
My communication style
I am evidence-based and solution-focused. I will explore with clients ways to grow, further develop self-acceptance, and unearth traumatic experiences and daily stressors that are hindering from achieving highest potential. I will provide an unbiased listening ear in a safe and accepting environment. I work with clients to develop an action plan to better manage individuals unique experiences and lives.
My journey to mental healthcare
My educational background consists of earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master's in clinical counseling, and a Master's in Addictions. I am a National Certified Counselor and am a certified addictions counselor. My areas of concentration include grief and significant trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and a sub-concentration in eating disorders. My past clinical experience includes working for a crisis center where the majority of clients experienced issues related to suicide, homicide, domestic violence, and child and elder abuse. These issues impact people of all ages, races, and ethnic groups. I have also worked for a county-based permanent assisted housing development where all of the clients have experienced episodes of homelessness, and have been significantly impacted by issues of trauma, depression, addictions, domestic violence, and child abuse. These experiences along with navigating my own personal journey have become the basis and catalyst for the clientele I currently serve.
My goals for you
Goal setting is collaborative between client and therapist with ownership and responsibility for change being on the client. My role is to show up, be present, and be supportive.
My first session with you
A first session will be an introduction, goals, and expectations of client and therapist. Getting a history and understanding of the presenting problem and collaboratively setting attainable and adjustable goals.
