Hello, my name is Victor Hernandez JR LMFT and I have been working for many years with people to help them deal with life challenges. I work in collaboration with my clients, as you will hear me say, "you are the expert of your life." I primarily have focused on working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and trauma.
My approach
I realize how you think, has an impact on how you feel and what you do, so I utilize a Cognitive Behavior therapy approach. I will challenge irrational thinking, so you are able to consider other alternatives to how you see a problem. What you say, how you say it, and who you say it to are also important in your daily functioning, so I will evaluate how you communicate with others and provide feedback, roleplay, and focus on strategies to improve how you communicate.
My focus
I tend to work a lot with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I focus on how these conditions impact relationships in your family, work, and social circles. I work with clients to improve communications interpersonally, as I recognize the power of how we practice the application of language.
My communication style
I set the tone of a relaxing environment and take my time to listen and allow my clients to share as they feel comfortable. I check in with them throughout the process, validating their feelings, clarifying their key points, and allowing them to direct what they want to work on during sessions. The experience is calm and I let you set the pace, reviewing what is working, challenging your thinking for the purpose of exploring improved outcomes.
My journey to mental healthcare
Before entering graduate school I took a personality test and therapist profession was high on results from test I took. I did a lot of soul-searching and realized I enjoyed working with people. I gravitated toward the therapy profession because this would allow me to work in a capacity with people in which I could help them overcome challenges.
My goals for you
I review what you stated to be problematic during the intake interview, clarify what you want to work on and work with you to formulate treatment goals that are measurable for you to track progress.
My first session with you
My goal is to provide a safe environment so I am able to understand your emotional distress, how it is problematic in relationships in your life and establish what goals you have for therapy.
