My communication style

I am no one's moral authority. I come to our work with a long list of mistakes in life, with some lessons learned and some lessons I resist learning. Life is profound, and it is a journey; I just get a little uneasy with the language. I believe that neurosis is the substitute for legitimate suffering (Jung), and reality is a tough negotiator.

My journey to mental healthcare

I enjoy this work, and I like my fellow human beings. There is nothing more remarkable than two people being honest with each other. It is amazing and an honor when anyone shares their real life with me.

My goals for you

No ordinary life is without pain. We are asked to make sense of what sometimes seems to make no sense and endure what may seem impossible to endure. Sometimes we need to narrate and to be supported. Sometimes we need honest advice. A better life, your version, is a goal. "A life of ordinary suffering."

Our first session

The best first sessions start with you telling your story. It is natural to be nervous. Some people are less nervous than others. Some have a strong need to narrate. We all, at some level, want to be heard and understood. If you are narrating, I try not to interrupt until I have to.
