Hi there, I'm Shannon!

My name is Dr. Shannon Silverstein, and I am a Licensed Psychologist originating from Southern California, providing therapy services to California clients statewide through telehealth. I am dedicated to working with women struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relational struggles, grief and/or trauma, utilizing therapeutic approaches that are tailored to meet the needs of the individual client. I am also skilled and enthusiastic working with both adolescents and the elderly.

My approach

I commonly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but I also pull from a variety of other theoretical approaches based on my client's personality and specific struggles. While some sessions may be solution-focused, other sessions may involve more cathartic self-disclosure and sharing. My first priority, however, is building rapport with my clients! Therapy is the most effective when there is trust and positive regard.

My focus

I typically work with women struggling with depression, anxiety, life transition problems, parenting struggles, Postpartum Depression/Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, grief, anger management, OCD, trauma, and substance abuse. I also work with adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, bullying, low self-esteem, self-injurious behavior, and/or suicidal ideation. Additionally, I work with the elderly who are struggling with grief, loneliness, depression, life transition issues, or chronic illness.

My communication style

My communication style is warm, friendly, empathetic and non-judgmental. I really strive to create a comfortable, positive atmosphere for my clients. I also want my client to feel like they have someone on their team - someone to encourage them and cheer them on as they try to tackle their issues.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was attracted to this role because I have a strong and abiding curiosity about people's different experiences, as well as a desire to help individuals overcome challenges and improve their mental health and well-being. I was also attracted to this role because I have a lot of empathy and compassion. I just genuinely care about the well-being of others.

My goals for you

First, I work towards establishing a therapeutic alliance to allow for open communication. Then the client and I identify the specific issues they wish to address, as well as their main concerns. I encourage the client to provide details and examples to gain a deeper understanding of their concerns. We work towards developing attainable goals and collaborate regularly.

My first session with you

Our first session together is primarily about establishing the foundation for a strong therapeutic relationship, gathering information, and creating a roadmap for your journey. This will include an initial assessment to discuss current concerns, symptoms, goals, history, background, and possible diagnosis. In general, I just want to get to know you and gain a deeper insight into your struggles and hopes.
