My communication style

As therapists come, I am more verbal than most, speaking and listening in equal measure. I love to tell stories, use metaphor, and joke when appropriate. I don't mind salty language.

My journey to mental healthcare

In my earliest years, I mostly worked in specialized school & residential settings for young people with severe trauma. This work was incredibly hard and incredibly joyful. While I moved on to other clinic & school settings, my interest in play and joy have remained steady. I am comfortable working w/in large networks & w/ diverse populations.

My goals for you

Therapy with me is a little like driving in a car together. We agree on a destination, I navigate, you have the steering wheel. Ultimately, we go where you want to go. At a crossroads, I might help you remember your longer term plan, in order to support you take make the best decisions. But the path you choose is yours.

Our first session

Perhaps obviously- your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. Feeling nervous or cautious is expectable-- therapy requires trust from a client and you may not feel it yet. I don't 'expect' clients to simply show up with trust. Instead, I know I must earn it.
