Hello, my name is Dino Petruzzi and I am an LMFT licensed in California. I have been a therapist for the past 7 years. My approach to therapy is to be compassionate and non-judgmental with my clients. My focus is on the client and what they need to get out of each session.
My approach
I would describe my theoretical approach as a cross between humanistic and compassionate inquiry where both the individual and therapist unveil the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories, and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.
My focus
In my years of therapy, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I have been working with adults who have dual diagnoses along with relational issues and family difficulties. I feel comfortable working with adults with any mental health diagnosis.
My communication style
The environment I create is one of compassion, honesty, and non-judgmental sessions with each client. I will use what works best with each client so that clients will feel safe, secure, and in a place that feels right for the client.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started out as a special education teacher working with special needs children in residential treatment facilities, group homes, and nontraditional schools. I wanted to work with this population because I was one of these kids and no one seemed to help me. I did this for over 25 years as well as being a counselor. As a teacher and counselor, I found myself becoming a therapist to these kids. I decided that I wanted to become a therapist and try to do more to help each child, so I became a therapist.
My goals for you
As a therapist, I find it essential to build goals with each client with their input because the client is going to gain more out of goals that they have a say in.
My first session with you
The first session here at Rula Mental Health will be one of introductions and finding out more about the client. This first session is to gain information regarding the assessment and treatment planning for the client and setting their goals for therapy.
