"True humility is to understand oneself as capable of every other person's weakness." Anonymous. Hello, my name is Mary Weck and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT50530). I believe this quote embodies the correct attitude necessary for a healthy therapeutic relationship. I actually admire clients who show the courage to open up difficult areas of their lives to a complete stranger since we all need another perspective from time to time. May I be found worthy of your trust?
My approach
I custom-tailor therapy to each individual. My favorite modalities are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Client-Centered Therapy, Gestalt, and a psychodynamic approach. Having studied Theology, I am able to offer a Christian, Biblically-based approach if so desired.
My focus
I excel with adolescents, individuals, trauma, substance abuse, and parenting issues.
My communication style
Without a comfortable and healthy therapeutic relationship, I feel most therapy fails. Therefore a relaxed and calming atmosphere with trust is what I endeavor to provide.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always thought a life well lived is one in service to others. As an adult, I began my work with the elderly in care homes and then with the developmentally challenged. After this, I worked for several years with severely emotionally disturbed children ages 5 to 18 in residential treatment centers. Following that I progressed in my education to obtain a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I graduated from Hope International University in 2008.
My goals for you
I think of goal setting as identifying symptoms, a collaborative effort establishing priorities and methodology resulting in the final say belonging to the client.
My first session with you
Clients can expect our first session to include getting to know one another, establishing my legal boundaries, and identifying the major areas of concern.
