My name is Phil Madden. I am a licensed clinical social worker in both California and Ohio. I received my undergraduate degree from Denison University in 2009 and my Master of Social Work from Ohio State University in 2015.
My approach
My approach is very strengths-based and client-centered. I utilize a multitude of practices that best fit my clients including CBT, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing among others.
My focus
This may sound cliche, but I pride myself on working with a very wide variety of clients. I have clients from 13-86 years old with various situations/struggles they want to work on. That being said, I feel I am best working with consitions such as anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, coaching, motivating and building self confidence among many others.
My communication style
Open and honest. I am all about the therapist and the client being equal partners in the experience and mutual respect is key to that. I am not your "head nod, say little" therapist. I like to engage and bring ideas to the session from my training and experience as I have worked with a very wide range of clients and can personally relate to many things my clients deal with.
My journey to mental healthcare
A winding one. I have worked in various school settings, with the VA, as well as a 2 year period outside of this profession finding my passion.I committed to my master's program at 27 years old realizing this is what I want to do. What drives me is the ability to make a unqiue impact on people in ways many have not had the platform to do so in their lives.
My goals for you
At the pace they want to go. Goals that are clear and attainable are important, but they need to happen in a way that is comfortable for clients and can change as we progress.
