Hi, my name is Amanda Harmon and I am a Licenses Professional Clinical Counselor. I approach therapy through a trauma informed lens, simply put "What has happened and how is it affecting you now?"
My approach
I am trained in EMDR and Cognitive Processing therapy, two research based interventions which target symptoms of PTSD and trauma. In addition, I practice using DBT and CBT to assist individuals struggling with depression and anxiety; who are looking for new skills or coping strategies to help them manage life.
My focus
So, if you are experiencing nightmares, intrusive thoughts, intense anxiety, feelings of sadness, or negative thoughts I would like to partner with you on reducing those symptoms and get you to feeling better.
My communication style
Even in therapy there is a time to cry and a time to laugh, a time to be humorous and a time to be serious but which ever way the session flows emotional validation is always encouraged.
My journey to mental healthcare
Honestly, I became a therapist on accident. Originally, I wanted to work in early childhood education, but as fate would have it, I now have a master degree in counseling and work with adults. Fate got it right though, because I love what I do. I have a passion to help individuals who have suffered trauma, experiencing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and or depression. I love sharing with client the space to learn, grow, and heal.
My goals for you
The client knows what they want or need to work on, I add the clinical piece, and together we create a cohesive plan.
My first session with you
An introduction, discussion of formalities (confidentiality, mandated reporting requirements, cancelation policy review) and a bullet point summary of how the assessment and treatment plan are created. The rest of the session would be collaboration of sharing and asking questions to build rapport and come up with a plan of action.
