Hello. My name is Deborah Corsaro and I am a licensed therapist in California. As no two people are alike, I personalize treatment designed to fit your unique and varied needs. I believe in positive growth created by the collaboration between myself and my clients.
My approach
My approach to working with clients is collaborative and creative. I find using active imagination combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral therapy, and Positive Psychology brings the best outcomes for the client. I do not present one type of therapy but a mixture of theories that best suits the client's personal challenges and needs. The client is wanting a solution to mental health problems and my focus is creating an environment where progress and growth can be achieved.
My focus
I have no preference in the type of clients I work with as each person is an individual creating a unique opportunity to serve those who need services. I have treated a variety of different conditions including trauma, depression, anxiety, transexual issues, life transitions, and grief.
My communication style
I believe in collaborative and open dialog in order to build trust and create a trusting and empathic environment from which to grow. I feel it is important to approach any mental health problem with the hope of a positive and progressive outcome for the client. Through experience and feedback from my clients, I believe I am open, inviting, and trustworthy when working with clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist began when I took a psychology class in high school. From that day forward, I studied all realms of Psychology due to intense interest and the need to understand the human condition. I had a prior career but the dream to become a therapist was always still there. I decided to complete my dream by obtaining my Bachelor's, Master's, and many hours of work as an intern. I made the right choice, as I find my work with others is fulfilling, rewarding, and brings hope for myself and others.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with the client in mind. All goal setting is created through collaboration between myself and the client, with the client's input being the most important. Goals will vary depending on the needs of the client.
My first session with you
In order to understand the client and their unique needs, the first session is dedicated to assessing the needs of the client. An assessment will include such things as presenting problems, family history, social interaction, work history, and past mental health treatment. The more information I gain will help me design a treatment plan that is created with the client's unique needs in mind.
