My name is Sommer Slaughter and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California working with clients statewide via telehealth. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults and I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, intimate partner violence, and substance abuse.
My approach
I integrate a variety of modalities based on the needs of each client. I most frequently use Trauma Informed Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as both modalities allow me to help clients work on behavior change while gaining back control and empowerment in their lives.
My focus
I am compassionate about working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, intimate partner violence, and substance abuse.
My communication style
I strive to create a safe space for my clients by allowing them to express themselves with open communication and transparency. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people and like to be a voice for the voiceless. By becoming a therapist, it gives me a chance to play a direct and supportive role in helping others reach their full potential and walk in their purpose.
My goals for you
I truly believe that each person is an active participant in their own healing. Thus, my approach to goal setting is all about meeting you where you are at and ensuring that there is a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish. My goal is to provide you with a safe therapeutic space to grow and heal.
My first session with you
I will use the first session to create a safe space while engaging in open and honest communication. Each individual is different, so I will do a lot of listening before speaking in order to gauge how to help you best move forward.
