My communication style

I'm direct, warm, and plain-spoken. I will tell you what I actually think. There is room to laugh (humor is essential) and room to say hard things out loud. I do not use jargon, and I won't pretend a hard thing is easy or reassure you that something "normal" doesn't feel horrible.

My journey to mental healthcare

I've spent my entire career in the hard places: hospitals, emergency rooms, crisis clinics, jails, and forensic programs, leading and mentoring clinicians and executives. I taught graduate students in counseling and forensic psychology, and I am the parent of two children with autism. This work has found me in several ways.

My goals for you

In the first session, we'll create goals in your own words and define how we'll know we're done. We'll build a plan with steps you can take between sessions, and we'll review progress out loud. The work has a finish line you can see from the starting line.

Our first session

Our first session is real work; we'll set the stage and build the plan for our work together. We'll agree on goals up front, and you'll tell me what information I need to know; we won't fill out a form together. The first session is for you to decide whether we should work together; ask the questions that matter most to you.
