Hi there, I'm Joy!
I have been licensed in the state of California since 2011. My treatment modalities include person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, CBT, and dialectical behavioral therapy, the latter of which I have a specialization in, which I began working towards in 2012 through my extensive work with young people in the juvenile justice system.
My focus
I have spent the majority of my career treating adolescents within the juvenile justice system and teenagers in the foster care system, placed in group homes. I was also part of the mobile response team, where I assessed for homicide or suicide for clients of all ages in a variety of settings. I do not have a preference.
My approach
I am client-driven and like to meet people where they are at. Building trust and rapport is key to any therapeutic approach. I feel that clients are the experts in their lives, and my job is to assist them in overcoming any challenges, maladaptive thinking, and behavioral patterns that are not serving them and that they find problematic.
