Hi there, I'm Lori!

Welcome! My name is Lori Guidinglight. I am a seasoned California Licensed Clinical Social Worker, License #LCSW28654. I am a holistic, integrative, strengths-based therapist who is passionate about working collaboratively to help you be the best version of yourself.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is all about working together to help you towards mental health wellness inclusive of- Mind-Body-Spirit. Each person is unique and I dive into my mental health toolbox to bring out tools, with your permission, to guide you back to you. I am trained in Brainspotting(BSP) which is excellent for helping to move through such things as Generalized Anxiety, Life Transitions, and Grief. I have specialized BSP training in Attachment issues and Self-Esteem. Additionally, I am trained in BSP Expansion which can assist with performance challenges (ie anxiety before exams, dance, acting, public speaking, sports, etc.) and Soul Spotting. I also am PolyVagal informed. In addition to BSP, the four other theoretical approaches I use the most are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-based CBT. Lastly, I have been practicing meditation since 1996 and have been teaching since the early 2000s, and if part of the agreed upon treatment plan goal- meditation/mindfulness is often incorporated.

My focus

The types of clients I typically work with are committed to their mental health wellness. This looks like clients showing up and participating in sessions as well as practicing the agreed-upon homework between sessions. I am most comfortable working with individual clients who are having challenges managing generalized anxiety, Life Transitions, Job Stress, low self-esteem, and grief.

My communication style

The tone/environment is very important to a strengths-based, collaborative therapy session. I strive to create a space of safety for you to bring all your parts and feel welcomed at each session. I do this by being my Authentic self. Being my authentic self includes being open, professional, compassionate, grounded, and when appropriate, a sense of humor with a side of goofy. Also, I do tend to talk with my hands.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have been a Clinical Social Worker for over 21 years now. To this day, I am grateful to feel passionate about partnering with my clients to help them achieve their mental health wellness goals- Body-Mind-Spirit. I am driven by a deep inner fire that loves helping people thrive - one client at a time.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting collaboratively with my clients.

My first session with you

During the first session, please get super comfy as we will be getting to know each other. We will get to know each other by me asking you a lot of questions which will help us together formulate your mental health treatment plan goals.
