Hello, my name is Georgianna Olivieri. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Counselor specializing in the treatment of people with Substance Use Disorder. My collaborative therapeutic approach focuses on helping clients to identify and fuel the power of their unique strengths to manage and overcome mental health and substance use challenges. My treatment forte includes Suicidal Ideation, Anger Management, ADHD, Personality Disorders, Trauma, and Attachment Disorders along with Anxiety and Depression.
My approach
As a partner with clients in the process of change, I utilize an eclectic assortment of theoretical approaches, including; Client-centered therapy built on the individualized foundation of trust and rapport, Cognitive Behavioral therapy as an evidence-based assessment tool to evaluate and change dysfunctional thoughts, feelings, and consequences, and Strength-based therapy to enable client strengths to sustain lasting change. My approach also includes Narrative, Solution-focused, Multicultural, and Relational therapies.
My focus
I have a diverse background working with clientele including people from 5 to 87 years old. Recently, my work has focused on the treatment of high acuity young adults and their families. Relational repair and marriage counseling is also a special population. I work with individuals, couples, and families.
My communication style
My therapeutic style is direct and no-nonsense with a caring delivery. Clients affectionately call me the "Bossy Therapist". They report my straight-forward manner expedites their change and sustainable recovery.
My journey to mental healthcare
Based on my personal experience, I learned about the life-changing abilities of psychotherapy. When I was in treatment, a young man approached me and shared his intent to commit suicide. Responding to his crisis situation, I found my unique sense of purpose. After a successful corporate leadership career, I felt compelled to help others. I immediately started on the path to become a psychotherapist. There is no greater feeling.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative process with my clients, beginning with our first therapy session, assessment process, and client prioritization.
My first session with you
During the first session, I briefly introduce myself, educational and professional background, and therapeutic style. I ask the client what kind of questions they have and their preferences in a therapeutic relationship including their likes and dislikes. With their agreement, I launch into the assessment process and explain its purpose as a way for us to collaboratively 'paint the picture' of their narrative foundational to our work together.
