Hello! My name is Shelby Chantilly Alkire and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I was trained at Columbia University in the City of New York. I help perfectionistic female millennials feel secure both in themselves & in relationships so that they experience less anxiety and more fulfillment. I help them to stop overthinking so that they can actually ENJOY life!
My approach
I work with women who are typically struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or PTSD showing up negatively in their relationships. I utilize EMDR therapy as a trauma treatment as well as for depression and anxiety. EMDR is a proven modality effective for healing from trauma, depression, and anxiety showing positive therapy outcomes.
My focus
I typically work with millennial women who want to increase their self-esteem in relationships and stop second-guessing their feelings and emotions.
My communication style
I'm a very collaborative therapist. I like to create a comfortable, cozy environment where my clients feel safe in expressing themselves but also know they'll be appropriately challenged to see the growth they desire. I like to infuse humor (respectfully!) in sessions to build rapport and connection. I show up ready to work and I want my clients to join me with that same energy.
My journey to mental healthcare
I do this work because I struggled for a LONG time with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. I spent a long time self-medicating and using negative coping skills before finally embarking on my own healing journey. This is why I'm particularly effective at what I do - I come from a place of understanding that helps my clients ditch their feelings of shame and instead embrace & accept who they are.
