My name is Jeffrey Bellissimo, LCSW. My approach to therapy is straightforward- I assist my clients with identifying the root cause of their suffering and help them access their inner strengths to create healthy solutions. I believe that people are experts in their own lives, and my goal is to facilitate the healing process by holding space and supporting clients in navigating their journey to wellness. I have 8 years of professional experience working with individuals facing a range of issues, including substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management, domestic violence, interpersonal and family relationships, incarceration, grief and loss, and others.
My approach
Therapy does not have to be difficult. In my experience, awareness of self is the biggest factor in the healing process. I assist my clients in creating goals, developing coping skills, implementing those coping skills, and making adjustments as necessary. I help my clients with positive self-talk and improving their self-esteem. I also assist my clients with understanding the importance of a self-care routine. The result is my clients feel empowered and confident that they have the ability to set healthy boundaries, communicate more effectively, and manage their emotions in a better way. Common treatment modalities I use include but are not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Positive Psychology, Attachment-Focused and Trauma-Focused strategies, and Family and Ecological Systems Theories. I also have extensive experience using the 12-step model of recovery. I incorporate childhood conditioning and family dynamics into most of the work I do with clients, as I believe it plays a significant role in the healing process.
My focus
I typically work with clients dealing with some form of anxiety or depressive symptoms. These symptoms often manifest in other areas of life, and present as anger issues, challenges within relationships, poor communication, unhealthy boundary setting, and/or excessive drinking or substance use.
My communication style
I create an emotionally safe environment for my clients. I spend time building rapport and use humor when appropriate to help my clients feel at ease. Working with me is easy, and clients will be able to share their feelings without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to become a therapist began about 16 years ago. I am not ashamed to say that I have gone through my own transformational process. I lacked self-confidence and self-awareness. Along the way, I had many incredible people take the time to help me. It takes strength and courage to reach out for assistance, and I embrace an attitude of non-judgment, having been in a similar position to many of my clients.
My goals for you
I allow my clients to take the lead in goal setting so that they feel empowered to make changes in their lives.
My first session with you
During a first session with me, clients should expect to spend time getting to know me. Therapy is a two-way street, and I want my clients to ask any questions they have in order to feel comfortable and build trust. Together, we will explore what brings them to therapy and establish goals.
