Hi, my name is Chris Offor. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about supporting my clients through challenges to experience healing and growth in their lives.
My approach
Some of my approaches to therapy are Person-Centered, Solution-focused, and Motivational Interviewing. Being present to my clients with compassion, mindfulness, and unrestricted positive respect helps me meet them where they are started. Believing that they will find in themselves through therapy, the ability to regain awareness and resolve present situations and return to living life. I support my clients by serving as a mirror for them to see clearly and identify treatment needs in a collaborative environment.
My focus
Everybody's unique. We might all be dealing with the same things in different ways, but we are all able to seek help and address what we see to be bothering us. So, while we are all unique, our symptoms can be typical. I find it rewarding working with adults seeking to cope with symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, anger problems, communication problems, relational issues, stages of life issues, and other behavioral issues. Being able to identify areas of difficulties in life is in itself a positive process to build on in therapy.
My communication style
I like to see and present myself as a mirror, that is, being present to my clients with compassion, mindfulness, and unrestricted positive respect helps me meet them where they are. I believe that to be able to LISTEN one needs to be SILENT. I try to create such an environment for my clients, where they feel heard, respected, and affirmed. I also believe that a positive therapeutic alliance helps the process towards progress.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a Therapist, I have dedicated myself to helping others get better. Providing a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic space that aims to grow self-understanding, self-acceptance, and self-compassion propels me in this field. Collaborating with clients to promote new ways of understanding pain, and developing insight and new strategies for problem-solving makes therapy come alive and my clients getting back to living crowns the process. Sometimes in life, you simply don't have to be alone. Together we can get through your concerns.
My goals for you
Having a clear objective can lead to progress. My approach to goal setting is to be collaborative with my clients to clearly identify what they want to work towards and so have a sense of direction. Having goals in place also makes tracking progress easier. I often encourage "SMART" goals as these can be highly motivating and provide strength for self-challenge and progress.
My first session with you
Therapy for beginners can be a little awkward and unnerving. I try to create a safe environment where my clients feel heard, respected, and affirmed. My client should expect appropriate attention, empathy, mindfulness, and unconditional positive regard as they describe what brings them to therapy.
