Hi there, I'm Phuong!

Hi there, I'm Phuong Nguyen. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As a therapist, I am passionate about cultivating a safe space for you to examine the challenges and barriers that prevent you from living a joyful life. I hope to use therapy as a tool to help you find healing and growth in your own journey.

My approach

My therapeutic approach does varied and depending on each client and their specific needs. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, and Gestalt (centering on the here and now and bringing your awareness into the present moment). These modalities help me to understand my client's current reality and together, we work toward an identified goal(s). Some other clinical training that I also use are Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

My focus

During my clinical practices, I come to recognize that I work well with a wide age range (children to adults) but I do work best with teenagers to young adults who might be dealing with transitions, figuring out their values/identities, relationship issues, and social pressures. I work with my clients to help build the skills needed for them to be confident in navigating these areas of growth.

My communication style

My communication style is gentle while being straightforward and compassionate. When you walk into my therapy space, I will make sure you know and feel that I genuinely care about you as a person and I am invested in your journey towards joy and healing.

My journey to mental healthcare

When family life was difficult during my high school years, I remembered the teachers and counselors who walked with me and encouraged me to rise above and accomplish many goals that as a Vietnamese immigrant, I did not think would be possible. So, I told myself one day, I will be that person for somebody in the future. More than that, I was told by many that I have always loved to help others. Today, I am truly grateful that being a therapist gives me the privilege to journey with others through the hardest part of life and I love witnessing people overcome hardships to create their best selves and live a joyful life.

My goals for you

When approaching goal setting with clients, I work together with you to define what goal(s) that you would like to accomplish in our time together. This will require us to spend some time building trust and over time, we will set goals together and track your progress.

My first session with you

In our first meeting together, I will spend a lot of time getting to know you and how you are feeling lately. I will be asking questions to gain a better understanding of what might lead you to have these feelings. Essentially, the first session is for me to get to know you, build trust between us, and understand how I can support you in this journey.
