My name is Judy Shvartz and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Woodland Hills, California. I believe in everyone’s ability to explore and reflect on how we can make changes to find meaning in ourselves and our relationships. It is through meaningful reflection that we are able to understand how we function and then find ways that help us grow, overcome challenges and adjust to life transitions.
My approach
I believe that the combination of a strength-based approach, attachment theory, trauma-informed, and cultural humility lens is the foundation for connection and building a strong relationship. By being curious, warm and accepting, I am able to empower my clients to collaborate with me to tailor a treatment plan that fits their needs and achieve their therapy goals.
My focus
I provide individual psychotherapy to adults. I specialize in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, as well as childhood trauma, grief, and intercultural and intergenerational conflicts.
My communication style
I work to provide an environment where my clients feel brave enough to be honest and vulnerable so that they are able to build the tools to cope with their challenges. I collaborate with my clients to find the right approach that will help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my professional career working with young adults at a Rehabilitation Center for people with brain injuries and other physical and mental illnesses that impaired their ability to work. Through the work, I recognized the importance of self-reflection, the ability to identify and explore the origin of triggers to facilitate one’s ability to find purpose, improve relationship and succeed at work. For the last thirty years, I have worked and continue to work at Child and Family Guidance Center in Northridge, a Community Mental Health agency, where I’m a Clinical Services Manager. In addition, I have had my private practice in Woodland Hills. This time at work in the community provides me with dept hope that I can make a meaningful different, and I am truly grateful for the privilege to help others.
My goals for you
My goal is to help you identify and verbalize your current challenges, develop new and healthy ways to cope, as well as empower you to make meaningful changes to feel fulfilled in your life.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will focus on identifying what brought you to therapy and what is that you want to get out of our experience together. If it’s your first-time starting therapy we will explore what the treatment will look like for you. If you are returning to therapy, we will identify what was helpful and what lacked from your previous experience so that we can create a meaningful treatment plan for you.
