Hi, my name is Sharleen Lal I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT). I practice in California and I provide telehealth services statewide. I work with Adults and specialize in Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Trauma Focus Model to help my clients feel supported and understand they are not on this life journey alone.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is how I view human relationships and the issues that occur for people throughout their lives. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which explores the relationship between a person's feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and the Trauma Focus Model which helps guide the client to decrease ruminating thoughts or triggers from trauma.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach is a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and want to gain relief from symptoms, maintain or enhance daily functioning, and improve quality of life. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build coping skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop an understanding that they are not alone on this journey.
My communication style
My communication style includes being direct, actively listening, building trust and rapport, and being personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe talking with me about anything and understanding my capability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist felt natural because I always enjoyed listening to people and wanted to help them understand who they were. I decided to become a therapist because I have always found myself being honest and direct with people. I was a peer counselor in Junior High school, joined Peer Support Clubs, and was a dependable and loyal friend. I enjoy seeing individuals come to an understanding and acceptance of who they are and who they can be during this life journey.
My goals for you
The method of goal setting will vary from person to person. I first consider what the client wants to achieve and identify realistic and specific goals through brainstorming and indicating a time frame for the goal to be met.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to build a connection with one another. We will spend the majority of our time talking about your current symptoms, and struggles, and you will share a bit about your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals which will help me have an awareness of where you need the support.
