Hi! I'm Ginny Gutman and I'm a licensed psychotherapist. I specialize in helping people overcome anxiety, making successful life transitions, and making lasting relationship improvements.
My approach
My intent is to create a non-judgmental space for you to share what you need to talk about most. I empower individuals and couples by teaching them practical tools so that they can better navigate through life's tough spots. The most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and the Gottman Method.
My focus
My client focus is on those who are struggling with anxiety, life transitions, and relationship issues.
My communication style
Something you should know is that I am strengths-based. Meaning I view all my clients as people with strengths and resiliency no matter what their circumstances, and I aim to help them use that to be empowered. Also, I've specifically sought out working with a variety of people from different cultural backgrounds throughout my career in the interest of true therapeutic competency.
My journey to mental healthcare
From early on I found that I was deeply empathetic to those around me. I knew that I should cultivate this personality trait when my peers were always coming to me for guidance. Even then, I knew I found helping others figure out navigation through life's struggles was my passion. It certainly helps that I have had my own share of life transitions, stressors, and relationship obstacles to deal with.
My goals for you
After listening and getting an understanding of what you'd like to be better, I tailor my intervention to match your treatment goals.
My first session with you
Therapy sessions are typically just under an hour long. In the beginning, it involves the therapist and client getting to know each other, and figuring out what your goals for therapy would be (i.e. decrease anxiety, decrease conflict, overcome burnout, etc.). Sessions can then involve talking through how to address those issues- both the source of the issue and how it presents in your day-to-day life.
