My name is Jane Vanderwerf, and I am an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) who specializes in anxiety, stress, and developmental trauma. I am a supportive, authentic, and direct therapist who prioritizes my clients' emotional safety and sense of connectedness.
My approach
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy. In practice, this means that we identify the underlying causes for symptoms and then use that insight to change the way you think and behave to reduce symptoms and improve functioning. I also use Exposure and Response Prevention for anxiety, Narrative Therapy, and some trauma-informed modalities.
My focus
I frequently work with individuals experiencing anxiety or having difficulty coping with stress. I also work with individuals who are learning how to adjust to the impact of emotional neglect, unmet childhood developmental needs, or attachment issues.
My communication style
I am a supportive, authentic, and direct therapist who prioritizes my clients' emotional safety and sense of connectedness. If you feel uncomfortable being vulnerable with someone or are hesitant about trying therapy, I may be an especially good fit for you.
My goals for you
Treatment focuses on how the client wants to be thinking, feeling, or acting differently by the end. Once we have established the client's priorities, I present options for how we can work together to help them achieve their goals. We frequently review progress toward goals and modify our approach as necessary. I encourage a lot of feedback from clients to ensure treatment is working for them.
My first session with you
The first session has two purposes: to get to know each other and to complete an assessment. I ask clients questions about a variety of topics to discover their goals for therapy, personal history, and existing strengths. The first session is also an opportunity for the client to ask me any questions they have about me or our work together. Many clients are nervous at the start of therapy and it's my goal to put them at ease and create a safe space.
