Hi, there! I'm Daria Balling, an LMFT in South Pasadena. Psychotherapy has been a passion of mine for several years. I love getting to know people on a genuine, intimate level, and I enjoy watching them uncover their possibilities, and move a little closer to getting what they want,
My approach
My theoretical orientation is best described as eclectic and catered toward each individual. I draw from Rogerian humanistic client-centered therapy, solution focus, and a little cognitive behavioral therapy.
My focus
I love working with sensitive, unique people who are struggling with ADHD, social anxiety, or depression, or who may be working through relationship, school, or career issues.
My communication style
My approach is collaborative, informal, and conversational. I'm a bit of a dork, so don't be surprised if I tell a dumb joke, or accidentally spill some water on myself during one of our sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist, because I find psychology fascinating, and have enjoyed being a helpful ear and personal cheerleader to my friends when it was needed. I think therapy can be a lovely way of discovering you are not as weird as you thought you were, and problems, once shared and examined, can seem less catastrophic.
My goals for you
I like to use the solution-focus technique when it comes to goal setting. You decide what you want to work on, and we will find small, doable steps to get you close to that objective. If you see yourself at a 3 on a scale from 1 to 10, what would help you get to a 3.5?
My first session with you
During our first meeting, you can expect a little information gathering, so that I can get a better idea of your background. We can also discuss your goals, your reasons for starting therapy now, and what you would like to take away from our sessions.
