My communication style

I bring my Trinidadian-American heritage into my work, recognizing how social identities impact therapy. I educate, advocate for, and address issues related to identities, power, and privilege. I help clients recognize oppression in their lives, understand its history, and see their resilience despite past trauma.

My journey to mental healthcare

I believe in empowering clients by teaching life skills, problem-solving skills, and helping them build supportive networks. When clients learn these skills, they feel better about themselves and experience greater life satisfaction. Connecting with others who understand their experiences creates meaningful support.

My goals for you

I provide support that allows for free expression of ideas. I encourage you to share your thoughts about how you define your issues and what you feel is needed. I also encourage discussing frustrations and stuck points. For this to occur, our sessions must feel psychologically safe.

Our first session

I'll greet you and ask if you have a preferred name, then inquire what led you to explore therapy. We'll discuss specific issues or stressors you'd like to address. I'll review any prior mental health screens and treatment history. I'll allow ample time to answer your questions about the therapeutic process and our work together.
