Hi there, I'm John!

I'm a social scientist with degrees in communication, women's studies, pastoral psychology, and social work. My background spans multiple disciplines, giving me a broad perspective on human behavior and well-being.

My focus

I work best with high-functioning adult clients, anywhere from age 18 upwards. I'm particularly good at helping to eliminate anxiety and to control adult ADHD. I'm also comfortable with drawing on various spiritual models, depending on whom I'm working with.

My approach

I like to use an eclectic approach since no single system has all the answers. I use a lot of psychoeducation, largely CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and draw on ideas from Jung and even Freud sometimes.

My communication style

I'm optimistic by nature, and we'll be using the strengths approach, in which I remind you of some of the resources available to you that you might be overlooking. In a session with me, we'll probably share a few laughs, and you'll feel better than when we started.

My journey to mental healthcare

I'm a master of several mystic arts and formerly a professional psychic, in which I counseled people with tarot and numerology. I got my training in social work to do more conventional counseling, in which my knowledge of arcane topics can serve to enhance standard treatment.

My goals for you

I generally favor brief therapy, insofar as it's been proven that maybe around 80% of therapeutic progress happens in the first 4 to 6 weeks. People need goals; we're built that way. I know a lot about goal-setting and can help with that.

Your first session with me should consist of you telling me what prompted you to reach out for counseling. Was it your idea, or were you prompted by someone else? Before the session is over, I will have given you some techniques and ideas with which you'll be able to help yourself therapeutically.
