My communication style

I try to create a rapport with my patients. I want the patients to know that I am sincere in their treatment and that we will not give up until we have achieved maintenance in treatment.

My journey to mental healthcare

I had a family member with mental health issues. As a child, I was sympathetic to her pain, but I did not have the tools to help. I enjoy watching patients recover from depression and anxiety disorders, which can be so debilitating. When the patient can again engage in life activities and relate to family, it is very satisfying.

My goals for you

I like to work on mood stabilization in the beginning, making sure to address any issues with insomnia. Once the patient is sleeping better, we start to address any remaining depression, anxiety, or psychosis. Oftentimes, insomnia contributes to psychosis, so addressing it first makes other factors easier to address.

Our first session

I spend time listening to the patient, looking for precipitating factors that have brought the patient to treatment. I look at trauma factors, genetics, history of substance use disorders, as well as any grief issues. From there, we start to formulate a differential diagnosis and a preliminary plan.
