Hi there, I'm Paul!

I am a licensed mental health counselor, LMHC, and a licensed teacher in Hawai’i, and a licensed professional clinical counselor in New Mexico. I am a person-centered counselor, trained in a variety of modalities, including EMDR. I enjoy working with people of all ages and incorporate my training in biology and the connection to mind/body.

My focus

I have treated individuals, couples, families, and whole groups. I enjoy working with people ages and up. I have treated depression, anxiety, grief, change of life, domestic violence, substance abuse, and trauma survivors.

My approach

I like to incorporate a person-centered approach and cognitive/behavioral therapy with an emphasis on how the vagal system can impact the health of the body and mind.

My communication style

As a person-centered therapist, it is important to me that I provide a safe space for clients to heal, grow, and learn. As a former educator, I believe that utilizing resources such as homework, bibliotherapy, and measurable treatment goals is an important tool in their work.

My journey to mental healthcare

I planned on becoming a therapist early on after graduating from high school. In college, I realized I was very interested in biology. I worked in the field of education as a teacher, counselor, and dean. Becoming a therapist helped me incorporate all areas of study that I had done and apply them in a useful way.
