My name is Tyler Lords and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW), Practicing telehealth therapy for residents in Hawaii. I work with teens and adults and specialize in working with people with anxiety, depression, life transitions, adjustment to medical conditions, LGBTQI+, and grief and loss using cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic interventions to assist people in making progress in their concerns and allow them to start feeling better balanced at coping through life's transitions and challenges.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with as I use a patient-centered approach. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Problem-Solving Therapy to help each person feel better and make progress in their goals and their journey to wellness and healing.
My focus
I feel that I am a good fit for adults and teens who want to feel better and start to heal from trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, and grief. I have been a social worker in the medical setting for over 9 years and specialize in helping people adapt and cope with crises and transitions, the process of adjustment to illness, and grief and loss. My focus is to listen through unconditional positive regard and to strengthen my patients through building coping skills, utilizing and exploring their strengths, and finding solutions towards wellness and improved health.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable speaking with me about anything they are feeling or thinking. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment and to make meaningful connections with others.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to be a therapist because I have always wanted to help people find balance and wellness in their lives. I have spent most of my career working in hospitals, and clinics and helping people navigate the health care system, process life transitions and illnesses, and stabilize and help people cope with crisis situations and events. I have always been told I am good at listening to people, and people have always felt comfortable sharing with me during stressful life moments. I want to continue helping people make progress on their goals, and to start feeling better on their journey to achieving balance in their health and wellness.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together on what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by getting to know each other and building trust between us, setting boundaries, and allowing you time to get comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. In time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress on your journey to wellness and healing.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time exploring about how you've been feeling recently. It may also include me asking questions to better understand what you may be feeling, and experiencing, and why you are exploring therapy at this time. We will be working on building an initial connection and I'll be working on creating a comfortable environment in which you can openly share without judgment. Once we establish trust and relationship I'll get a sense of where things go from there, since each session is patient-centered and tailored to what works best for you.
