Hi there, I'm Idayatu!

I became an Illinois Board Certified Nurse Practitioner in 2021. I received my undergraduate degree at Valparaiso University in Indiana and my master’s degree from the University of St. Francis in Joliet. I completed my clinical rotation in mental health at Will County Behavioral Health in Joliet.

My focus

I work with individuals across the lifespan experiencing depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, panic disorder, PTSD, OCD, and other anxiety disorders. My clients seek compassionate psychiatric care that respects their dignity and supports their healing process.

My approach

I integrate Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, CBT, Behavior Modification, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy to create a holistic treatment plan. This combination allows me to address your mental health from multiple angles, supporting both symptom relief and meaningful personal growth.

I provide a supportive environment for your healing through compassionate care with empathy, respect, and dignity. I incorporate genuineness and active listening, creating space where you feel heard and valued throughout our work together.

My journey to mental healthcare

While I was working inpatient at my first nursing job in 2014, my mentor noticed that I was good with patients. She actually encouraged me to try behavioral health. My primary motivation is the profound impact psychiatry can have on improving the lives of individuals struggling with mental health conditions.

Our first session

I normally introduce myself and explain my role and the MAT process. Clients are seen via telehealth through a safe and comfortable medium, aiming to build rapport and trust. The client will be asked about their expectations and goals for medication and therapy.
