Hi there, I'm Susan!

I am Susan Boyce, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) who believes that my therapeutic role is to help you facilitate your journey to wellness and peace of mind.

My approach

I am client focused with a strong emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Unconditional Positive Regard. I provide therapeutic interventions that are evidence-based in treating specific symptoms of a diagnosis.

My focus

During my career as a secondary health teacher, I developed insight to and understanding of adolescents and their struggles with identity, decision-making, self-confidence, and self-esteem. My area of expertise with struggling teens, arose when I was direct-care staff and a teacher at residence for court-ordered males ages 12-17. From this venue, I moved on and provided in-home therapy for children and their families, assisting with interventions to stabilize emotions and behaviors. I have provided individual therapy to children, teens, and adults including LGBTQ, depression, suicidal ideation, addiction, anxiety, stress, interpersonal relationships, grief and loss, and life planning. I currently provide clinical support services for adults with schizophrenia, bipolar, and borderline personality disorder who reside in group homes.

My communication style

I approach therapy with compassion and empathy, while being honest, genuine, and direct. I will provide a nurturing, safe environment in which you can be true to yourself without judgement.

My journey to mental healthcare

I began my career as a therapist in midlife when I realized I could not meet the emotional and mental health needs of my adolescent students as a classroom teacher. I discovered an innate ability to meet kids where they were at and provide a quiet stability and listening ear. No matter what one's age, a good therapist reassures, validates, and helps the world make a little more sense.

My goals for you

The first session or two is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. During this time we will determine if we are a good fit for therapy. I will share my observations and together we will create a treatment plan based on your personal goals.

My first session with you

The required paperwork will be sent to you ahead of our first session. Our initial conversation will be when you tell me what brought you to therapy and what you hope it will accomplish. I will listen as you talk, sharing what you want me to know about you.
