I have been providing clinical care since 2011, however, I have been in the field for over 20 years in various capacities. I graduated from Radford University in 2000 with a BSW and received my MSW from Winthrop University in 2013. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and elderly adults in various capacities. I have worked with first responders in a crisis setting in the community. I have also provided services to first responders in a therapeutic setting. I work a lot with domestic violence, sexual trauma, and human trafficking.
My approach
I believe in meeting you where you are in your therapeutic journey. You are the expert in your life, I am the guide to support you in achieving your treatment goals. I pull from several modalities including CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Reality Therapy, and a strength-based perspective.
My focus
I like working with people who are motivated to improve their lives. Because I work with such a wide range of issues, I can be helpful and supportive in many different areas.
My communication style
I provide a relaxed atmosphere during sessions and always ensure you are in a good place emotionally prior to the end of the session. I provide a supportive environment where people feel safe and heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was initially drawn to this field to give people a voice who may not have had one before. I am an advocate for people who are struggling, whatever that struggle may look like. I recognize that life is difficult and feel everyone needs additional support from time to time. I have received various training over the years including grief, DBT therapy, CBT therapy, ACT therapy, and Trauma therapy to name a few.
My goals for you
My therapeutic goals for my clients are that you leave the sessions with tools to support their treatment goals. Working with them to identify what they want to achieve in therapy.
My first session with you
The first session is introductions, discussions of the therapeutic process, and confidentiality. I give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have for me prior to the start of the session. During the first session, we are discussing what is bringing you into therapy and any concerns you have for yourself overall.
