My communication style

I communicate with an even tone in a non-judgmental and patient style. My environment is welcoming. Many patients have told me, "I feel like I can talk to you." I listen carefully and create space for you to share openly.

My journey to mental healthcare

I worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner for 13 years before realizing at least 75% of my patients discussed their mental health during their PCP appointment. I found myself researching the patient's depressed moods, anxiety, and or manic phases they spoke of. I began to become more and more intrigued with mental health.

My goals for you

I generally ask the patient, “What is it that you’re looking to get from treatment? How do they want to feel”? Many are able to tell me, some are not. For patients who are not able to tell me…..I then take a different approach, such as…” What do you think has brought you to this point in your life, that has brought you to seek treatment “?

Our first session

An introduction of myself, initially, my name. I then ask about them, if they work, etc…. If it permits. I then ask softly, “How can I help you”? I examine the patient's disposition, verbal/non-verbal cues, which guide my approach. I invariably let the patient know that we can work together to determine what medication, if any, is best for them.
