Hi there, I'm Jessica!

Hi, I'm Jessica Lauro. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with deep care and passion for supporting my clients as they persevere through vulnerable experiences and navigate healthy paths toward their personal therapeutic goals. My specialty foci include interpersonal relationship issues within all realms of connections ranging from the relationships clients have with themselves to those relationships they have with everyone in their lives. I am exceptionally versed in helping clients create and uphold meaningful, trusting foundations in their relationships through individual, couple, and family therapy session options.

My approach

My approach to therapy is experiential and client-centered. I always uphold unconditional positive regard for my clients and show up for them and their experiences with empathy, compassion, openness, and support. I don't regard myself as an expert who knows what is best for my clients, but rather someone who can help to collaborate with them. We will find the path they want and need for treatment that will help them to heal as they create self-actualization and trust in their ability to support their happiness and security.

My focus

I use individual therapy, couple's therapy, and family therapy to help adult populations to manage and reduce issues and symptoms from anxiety, depression, mood disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), interpersonal relationship issues, stress, self-esteem/confidence issues, grief, and traumatic experiences.

My communication style

As a client-centered therapist, I take an active listening stance in therapy sessions without pressure on the client to share or explore anything unwanted or undesired in the therapeutic context. I encourage clients to peruse difficult topics, but only if they are necessary for their goals and always at their flexible pace. In regards to also being an experiential therapist, I am dedicated to holding a non-judgmental presence for my clients as I respect and honor their experiences within their family system. I am mindful of what an honor it is to be invited by my clients to help them explore emotions and find healing from self-awareness that can lead to new perceptual and behavioral life changes.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became a therapist to help others explore their self-love and actualization from mindful self-exploration that can create emotional security, confidence, and balance in their relationships as well as with their mental health symptom reduction and management. I completed my graduate education programs and training at Pace University (General Psychology MA) and then at Touro University Worldwide (Marriage and Family Therapy MA), where I directed my focus of therapy to adult populations using family system modalities.

My goals for you

I'm here to help you achieve what mental health and relational goals you most want for your happiness and betterment. We will work to gain effective skills, self-confidence, and personal growth through the challenges of the human experience.

My first session with you

Our first session will be an intake of questions to get to know you, your history, and your wants/needs in therapy. We will start to formulate some treatment goals that you are pondering and outline a loosely structured plan to get started toward effective therapeutic interventions.
