Hi. I'm Theresa, a therapist with over 15 years of experience in community mental health centers, schools, crisis centers, and outpatient therapy offices - with teens and adults. I use a person-centered approach to therapy where you the client are the expert and I am here to support you on your journey to cope with life's struggles. I specialize in clients with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, family conflict, grief and aging, and medical concerns.
My approach
My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore their thoughts emotions and behaviors and work towards positive change. I use an eclectic mix of therapy approaches when working with clients. Some of the more common ones are - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
My focus
I specialize in clients with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, family conflict, grief and aging, and medical concerns. I am comfortable with teens and adults.
My communication style
My approach is rooted in directness, empathy collaboration, and evidence-based techniques to address a wide range of mental health concerns. I believe that everyone has the potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life and I am committed to supporting my clients on their journey toward overall well-being
My journey to mental healthcare
From my start as a Vista Volunteer with the homeless in Austin, Texas, I came to love helping individuals work through their struggles and connect with them as fellow human beings. I eventually graduated from the University of Texas with my Master's in Social Work and gradually made my way back to Ohio and worked in communities and schools in the Cincinnati area. Over the years, I have worked with various population groups in varied settings. I enjoy helping individuals work through their issues, develop better coping skills, and realize their own potential to not only survive in this world but to thrive.
My goals for you
I believe goal setting with clients is a critical and necessary part of therapy but the client is always the focus and drives the process. I firmly believe goals should be written in simple language - easy to measure and achievable.
My first session with you
Typically, a first session involves getting to know each other and building a trusting therapy relationship. I give clients the opportunity to share their current struggles and a brief history of their lives. I also like to share my approach to therapy and what the client can expect in future sessions.
