I am Dr. Charlie Waehler, licensed in Ohio and board certified as a Counseling Psychologist which is a sub-specialty in professional psychology that focuses on facilitating personal and interpersonal functioning across the life span. My specialty pays attention to emotional, interpersonal, vocational, health-related, and organizational challenges and adjustments. I am eager to hear your personal story in order to provide professional assessments that will lead to individualized therapy rooted in evidence-based practices with adults who are seeking mental health services for emotional, social, and vocational concerns.
My approach
I incorporate a variety of approaches that address individual client concerns based on their needs and are rooted in evidence-based interpersonal, humanistic, dynamic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
My focus
I work with youth through seniors to address their emotional issues which present with symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic, fatigue, second-guessing, procrastination, emotional dysregulation, and/or insecurity.
My communication style
I am an effective listener who will help you find your voice to better articulate and understand your mental state. Together we will find analogies to better understand the major themes of your struggles and find creative avenues to pursue more adaptive functioning. When appropriate my clients and I usually share a laugh as we explore our whole selves with all their talents and potential.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am so glad that I have had years of experience to find my voice as a psychotherapist. This journey was aided by my graduate training and then enhanced by my years teaching and supervising students in their training. Peer consultation has informed my development, as has my experience of being in my own therapy for personal growth.
My goals for you
My job is to fully hear your goals in a way which will clarify your thinking to make these more achievable. This clarity will include exploring the origins of your goals and the hurdles that interfere with your happiness as well as knowing how to build on past strategies that we can build on to help you function more effectively.
My first session with you
First sessions involve you answering the general question of "What brings you to this session?" and then we go from there to explore how you got here and what resources and challenges you have that we can build up or tamp down to help understand your functioning and improve your adjustment.
