Hi there! My name is Rosa Thomas I'm a licesend Professional Counselor. I graduate from Lanston University and I have a Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling. My professional practice includes working with children and families to improve cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
My approach
My theoretical orientation represents an eclectic approach to psychotherapy. I utilize strategies and practices from CBT Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Humanistic approaches Client-centered, Mindfulness based.
My focus
I typically work with children age 5-12, teens 13-19, and adults. I feel comfortable treating anxiety, adjsutment disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, and trauma and substance use disorder.
My communication style
Your session is relaxed and somewhat conversational. Consumer's can feel safe to express him/her self in a non-judgmental enviornment. My communication style is supportive, encouraging and empathetic.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist has been worth every minute. I've grown as a professional and in my personal life. I enjoy the ability to help others find their passion and hope for life. I believe that we need one another and helping someone, gain greater self awareness, change a behavior, or become the best version of themselves is what drives me to do this work.
My goals for you
Consumer's are informed of the importance of goal setting during the early stages of therapy. I will assess consumer's goal setting abilities and facilitate the process reviewing and updating goals regularly. Together we examine the goal the consumer wants to achieve and the plan to achieve it by setting SMART GOALS.
My first session with you
In the first session the consumer can expect to receive important disclosures to increase consumer knowledge of the therapuetic process. Therapist and consumer begin building rapport and trust. Therapist seeks to understand the presenting problem, and related stressors. Consumers are encouraged to share any aspects of themselves and their strengths or liabilities as they feel comfortable.
