Hi, I'm Maria Valentich, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Texas. I take a client-centered approach to therapy. My personal belief and goal is to make therapy easy to access for you. I can help you with common life stressors like symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, relationship problems, and conflict resolution.
My approach
I operate primarily through a cognitive behavioral approach, meaning as we work together, attention is focused on your thoughts, emotions and behaviors and how they impact your life. I also am skilled in other approaches and will adjust according to what you need. I personally believe that everyone is different and therapy interventions should reflect that fact.
My focus
I mostly work with individuals and couples of various ages. Depression, grief, and anxiety are conditions that I work with the most.
My communication style
I feel the therapeutic relationship is most effective in a comfortable environment. I have a relaxed personality and am very interested in what you want to discuss in your session. I like to guide communication, but listening to you is my focus. I provide education in my sessions as needed, so I may share the screen to teach a concept.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been in private practice for a little over a year. Before that I operated in various agencies providing counseling. I have worked with populations with medical disabilities, children and families, grief, trauma, and violence. Helping others in their life struggles is very rewarding for me. I am grateful that people are willing to trust me with their worries and concerns. I try to honor and respect that fact with each interaction.
My goals for you
The only thing that works with setting goals is that any goals are client driven. Helping you identify and work towards your goals requires your involvement. My role is to help direct goal-setting activities as needed.
My first session with you
The first session is primarily information gathering for an initial assessment. I need time to get to know you and your concerns so we can create a treatment plan together.
