Hello, my name is Denise. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Radford University. I have been working in the behavioral health field for 28 years, providing therapy to individuals and families.
My approach
I work in a person-focused and centered approach. My therapeutic style draws from attachment-based, cognitive behavioral (CBT), culturally sensitive, family systems, grief, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, solution focused, strength-based, trauma focused, and eclectic modalities. I strive to tailor my approach to best fit the unique needs of each individual I work with.
My focus
I specialize in providing therapy to individuals struggling with a range of issues, including anger management, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, codependency, depression, divorce, dual diagnosis, emotional disturbance, family conflict, grief, job stress, life transitions, mood disorders, panic attacks, relationship issues, schizophrenia, self-esteem, stress, thought disorders, trauma/PTSD, and women's issues.
My communication style
I utilize a relaxed, interactive communication style in my therapy sessions. My aim is to create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable openly sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
My goals for you
My goal is to help you gain insight, develop coping strategies, improve relationships, and ultimately enhance your overall wellbeing and quality of life. I will work collaboratively with you to identify and work towards achieving your unique therapy goals.
My first session with you
In our first session, I will focus on getting to know you and understanding your reasons for seeking therapy at this time. We will discuss what you hope to get out of therapy and any specific issues you would like to address. This will help lay the foundation for our work together. I aim to create a safe, supportive space from the very beginning so you feel comfortable opening up and sharing your story with me.
